Donald Trump’s Objection to Apple’s India Manufacturing Sparks Debate Amid India-Pakistan Tensions

Trump’s India Objection Over Apple Plans

Former US President Donald Trump recently expressed displeasure with Apple CEO Tim Cook during a meeting, criticizing Apple’s plans to shift more iPhone manufacturing to India. Trump openly stated:

“I don’t want you building in India... Build in America.”

This remark alarmed many Indians and raised questions about Trump's motivations. Critics pointed out that while Trump wants Apple to avoid investing in India, his own real estate brand—Trump Towers—has been thriving in Indian markets, particularly with luxury properties selling in cities like Gurugram, generating significant revenue.

Apple Ignores Trump, Expands in India

Despite Trump’s disapproval, Apple has confirmed that its expansion in India will continue. The company has directed its primary supplier Foxconn to set up a ₹3,700 crore (~$450 million) chip manufacturing plant in Uttar Pradesh, scheduled to be operational by 2027.

Additionally, Apple plans to establish its largest manufacturing plant in Bengaluru, expected to employ over 60,000 workers, cementing India's position as a major production hub for iPhones.

India’s Military Power and Global Reactions

India’s growing assertiveness on the world stage—particularly its military operations—appears to be another reason behind Trump’s recent tone. In a bold and strategic military move, India reportedly conducted precision airstrikes on 11 Pakistani airbases, supported by satellite imagery proving extensive damage. Some estimates suggest:

  • 20% of Pakistan's Air Force infrastructure was destroyed.

  • Several F-16s and JF-17 Thunder jets were damaged in hangars.

Despite this, Western media published vague or source-less reports, often citing unnamed "officials" without concrete evidence, some even penned by Pakistani-origin journalists in mainstream outlets like NYT, Reuters, and Nikkei Asia.

Trump’s Contradictory Statements on India-Pak Conflict

Trump previously claimed:

“I stopped a nuclear war between India and Pakistan.”

However, Indian officials and media strongly denied this, emphasizing that India acted independently and Pakistan requested de-escalation after heavy losses. As scrutiny mounted, Trump walked back his statements:

“I didn’t stop it, I just helped a little.”

India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar also rebutted Trump’s claim that India had agreed to remove tariffs under US pressure—saying no such agreement was made.

Behind the Scenes: Business Interests & Crypto Links

Trump's softened stance on Pakistan may also be tied to financial interests. A recent deal between the Pakistani government and a cryptocurrency company, in which a Trump family member holds 60% stake, could be influencing his position. This move is seen as a direct economic benefit for Trump’s circle.

Meanwhile, his real estate brand continues to earn from Indian markets—but still criticizes Indian industrial progress when it doesn't suit his narrative.

Conclusion: Strategic India Marches On

Despite Trump’s rhetoric:

  • Apple is not backing down from its India manufacturing plans.

  • India has demonstrated military strength and intelligence-based operations.

  • The international market’s confidence in India is rising, with countries like Indonesia rejecting Chinese jets in favor of Rafale fighters—a trend sparked by India's successful operations.

India’s rising stature as a tech and defense powerhouse is reshaping geopolitical dynamics, and while Trump may express displeasure, India’s trajectory remains upward—strategic, sovereign, and assertive.
